Gill Vaisey, managing director of Books at Press, is a national Religion and Worldviews Adviser and writer of high quality RE curriculum materials for practitioners and pupils. As an experienced primary school teacher and RE Subject Leader, Gill became an independent education consultant and has specialised in Early Years and Primary RE for over twenty years, providing support to teachers, LAs, Dioceses and SACREs across the UK.
Gill has a wealth of experience in providing professional support to SACREs and Agreed Syllabus Conferences, leading and managing teacher working groups, writing Agreed Syllabuses and producing exemplar curriculum planning and support materials.
Gill’s high-quality advice, training and curriculum materials facilitate more enjoyable, accessible and meaningful RE for practitioners and pupils.
The VAT of Belonging and Believing project draws on Gill’s recent experience working with Wilf and his humanist family and her wealth of experience with the Early Years curriculum and best practice.
A nationally recognised specialist in Early Years provision, Gill has a twenty year track record of providing consultancy to schools, colleges, education authorities, Church Dioceses and other religious bodies for Early Years and up to Key Stage 2.
The ethos behind her consultancy is to promote and support excellence of provision in schools and educational establishments. This is achieved through her innovative approaches and the development of novel and inventive resources that make learning more enjoyable and memorable for both practitioners and pupils.
Zoom Training Sessions
Gill now regularly provides Zoom training sessions to support practitioners in providing excellent religion and worldviews education. Many of these sessions, based on how to use the Books at Press resources effectively in the classroom, are accessible free of charge.
You can also request a training session for your own teacher network or cluster of schools. Just email Gill, gill_press@booksatpress.co.uk, to discuss the possibilities.
“I cannot express enough how wonderful your training sessions were.
You were inspiring without being intimidating, calm, fun, and welcoming.
On top of that, I learnt a huge amount and am excited to try new things out!”
Madeleine Stokes, Early Years Teacher, St Nicholas CofE Primary School, Henstridge, Somerset
“I thoroughly enjoyed your online training. I found it really useful and have already used some of your ideas in my latest RE lesson!”
Tracey Pallett, HLTA, Morpeth All Saints Primary School, Morpeth, Northumberland
Amongst her most recent developments
The 'Belonging and Believing' project, working with eight families over three years, shares
their lived experience through
the lens of a five-year old from
within each family.
These resources bring an
exciting fresh approach
to exploring different
religions and worldviews
with young children.
To meet the needs of practitioners and pupils, Gill began writing and producing books and resource materials for the classroom. Her series of Puddles books were the first to be awarded accreditation for the Understanding Christianity project. Her Muslim story resources received an Early Years Excellence award.
The recent ‘Belonging and Believing’ series of books and resources is the culmination of a three year project undertaken by Gill to help enable young children to engage with the lives of a five/six year old child from eight different religions and worldviews. In line with recommended practice, the books focus on the ‘lived experience’ of children, their families and communities, bringing real lives into the classroom.
Gill’s latest project ‘The VAT of Belonging and Believing’ draws on Gill’s recent experience working with Wilf and his humanist family and her wealth of experience with the Early Years curriculum and best practice, to create an exciting digital tool. You can hear more about this resource here.
